Brighton

Down to the sea

Within easy reach of the capital, most visitors to this popular seaside resort will head straight for the shingle beaches before taking on the riot of amusements perched atop a Grade I-listed pier. After refuelling on fish and chips, take time to stroll around the Lanes, Brighton’s maze of narrow alleyways lined with little shops selling clothing, jewellery and antiques.

The Royal Pavilion

Not to be missed is the iconic Royal Pavilion. Acclaimed as one of the most exotically beautiful buildings in Britain, it was the magnificent seaside residence of George IV. The breathtaking Regency palace is decorated in Chinese style, with a romanticised Indian exterior, and surrounded by restored Regency gardens.

The LGBT scene
Brighton’s vibrant LGBT calendar has put the city on the map, with the headline event being the annual Brighton Pride festival each August. Over a single weekend, hundreds of thousands of visitors flock to the UK’s unofficial ‘gay capital’ to celebrate diversity and to support the fight for equality.
