Description
One-time home to the Bank of England's Scottish headquarters, this imposing building has been transformed into a chic modern restaurant and champagne bar. A grand façade sets the scene and leads into the large bar, off which is an intimate lounge and spacious dining area. Here white walls are hung with colourful modern artwork, and there's brown banquette seating, smart wood flooring, a glass skylight and tables dressed in their best whites. It's a tall order, but the food lives up to the surroundings: expect accomplished cooking distinguished by quality produce and clean flavours - monkfish steamed in paper for example, served with ginger and spring onions, or roast saddle of venison with beetroot, redcurrant, port and pink peppercorns. Rum and raisin crème brûlée rounds things off nicely, and there's a well chosen wine list too.
