Description
Situated opposite the cathedral, the purpose-built Garden Restaurant is attached to the fine 15th-century castle and overlooks the immaculate walled castle gardens. The rich décor is Scottish-influenced, successfully marrying traditional and modern styles, while the modern Scottish menu offers a straightforward brasserie-style choice using quality ingredients, locally sourced wherever possible. Kick off with a traditional dish of Cullen skink, or maybe haggis cake with whisky cream sauce, before moving on to pan-fried sea bass and queen scallops with chargrilled fennel, black caviar cream and fondant potatoes, or perhaps roasted breast of chicken wrapped in Parma ham and stuffed with saffron cream cheese in red wine jus. Service is informal, but attentive.
