Description
This beautifully restored, former 18th-century hunting lodge sits - as its name suggests - beside a tranquil lake overlooking stately Brocket Hall, whose estate also encompasses a swish golf complex. The airy, elegant restaurant boasts large windows and fabulous flower arrangements, and is presided over by an attentive serving team. Cheese and Armagnac trolleys should provoke some pleasurable dithering, while the kitchen's focus is on a modern French approach, delivering well-presented dishes distinguished by some unusual combinations. High-quality produce and impressive skills shine throughout; think poached beef fillet with oxtail croustillante and salsify, or coconut parfait with pineapple sorbet and coconut foam. And, if the sun is shining, try for a table on the terrace.
