Gamba

Named after the Spanish word for 'prawn', this perennial favourite enjoys a well deserved reputation locally as a fine seafood restaurant, providing attentive service and consistent food in an intimate and stylish basement setting. Located in the heart of the city's West End, there's a striking Mediterranean theme to the décor - warm colours, terracotta floor tiles, stylish fish-themed artwork and polished-wood tables, plus a cosy cocktail area. This theme also extends to the food - though with some subtle Asian influence too - on the well-balanced menu. Portions are generous and the no-nonsense approach is a winning formula, but it's the classics like Gamba fish soup - for which they are deservedly renowned - that win the day. Other interesting options include grilled fillets of bream with crayfish tails, honey and Pommery mustard, or fillet of Angus beef with crushed peppercorns, shiitake mushrooms and mash.
