The stylish modern dining room is accessed via a flight of steps next door to Perth's council offices and it remains a popular choice for both dinner and the good-value lunch, with friendly and attentive waiting staff. Local produce figures large on the ambitious menu, from Stornoway black pudding to Carnoustie pork, and with European influences very much in evidence, the result is confident modern Scottish cooking. Carpaccio of Scrabster haddock comes with lightly scrambled eggs on chick pea toast in a successful starter, and main-course duck is pink and moist and complemented by a fragrant barbecue dipping sauce, cherries and orzo.
