Description
Located at the entrance to Aberdeen harbour, the building which was once the customs house is now a restaurant with its focus firmly on the fruits of the sea. The name is a reference to the rather romantic colloquial term for herring. From the large windows of the first-floor conservatory restaurant you can see passing ships and even dolphins sometimes. Fresh locally-landed seafood appears on a menu with a decidedly French influence, and there are meat options for those that insist. A starter of salmon rillette is served with horseradish and chive cream, pickled beetroot and apples, chicory and grilled toast, while main courses include beautifully cooked seared king scallops with cauliflower and ratte potato purée with a raisin and caper dressing.
