Magnificent setting, grand house with a beautiful interior. Our stay was completely ruined by the noisiness of the environment. Noisy trolleys moved crockery in corridor all through the night. Every conversation of each passing guest entirely audible. Every heavy footfall overhead on creaking and badly soundproofed floors. The first duty of any hotel is to ensure that their guests have a restful night. This hotel failed miserably to provide it. Would not go back there if they paid me.

This is a pretentious, unfriendly, overpiced and appallingly run hotel that I would advise travellers to avoid at all costs. The staff were rude and snobbish when we complained about the abysmal food. Breakfast, if anything, was worse, with guests having to hunt down plates and cutlery themselves, and staff either ambling around filling out checklists or disappearing for 15 minutes at a time.
