Jamaica Inn
Description
The setting for Daphne du Maurier's famously eponymous novel, this 18th-century inn stands high on Bodmin moor. Its Smugglers Museum houses fascinating artefacts, while the Daphne du Maurier room honours the great writer. The place is big on atmosphere, with a cobbled courtyard, beamed ceilings and roaring fires. Lunches range from hot ciabattas to grills; the evening menu served from 3pm could start with warm melted goat's cheese bruschetta, and follow with barbecued pork ribs or poached fillet of Port Isaac salmon.

Appauling food, tasteless, microwaved, soggy veg. A place to be avoided.
