Tables are closely packed and floor-to-ceiling windows look onto bustling Lord Street, where there are tables for alfresco dining. The menu roams around Britain and Europe before arriving in Japan with some platters of authentic sushi and sashimi, maki and temaki, with a section of 'gringo sushi for non-fish-lovers' - roasted crispy duck and mango maki for example, or barbecue pulled pork maki. Choosing from the European side of the fence, you might start with uncomplicated classics along the lines of duck liver parfait with toasted brioche, or smoked haddock and salmon fishcake with tartare sauce and endive salad. A main course supr?me of cod matched with spring onion mash and brown shrimp beurre noisette stands out for its freshness, accurate cooking and balanced combinations. Those with a taste for rhubarb could finish with the tart vegetable served as ice cream and comp?te with custard foam and spicy ginger crumb.
