The restaurant is part of the Milford Hall Hotel, an extended Georgian mansion in pretty gardens. It's a smartly appointed room, with a blond wood floor, brown and cream high-backed dining chairs and one wall occupied by bottles of wine. You can dine very well on a seafood starter of house-cured gravad lax (in vodka, dill and orange as it happens), before tucking into one of the 28-day dry-aged Wiltshire steaks (10oz sirloin, say), served with triple-cooked chips. Barbecue ribs are glazed in Jack Daniels, seafood stew is flavoured with basil and chilli, and to finish there might be chocolate and hazelnut parfait.
