The robust 18th-century stone building that is home to North Port sits in the historic heart of Perth just back from the River Tay, and handy for the town's concert hall and museums. There is much to like about the interior, which has the intimacy of an upmarket cabin with its wooden floors, ornately coffered darkwood ceiling and unclothed tables. Diligent sourcing of fine Scottish produce is firmly on the agenda of a kitchen that deals in imaginative modern British dishes, with blackboard specials to bolster a well-thought-out carte. Dinner kicks of with a simple but effective woodland mushroom crumble with parsnip crisps, ahead of a robust seared pork fillet teamed with black pudding, gratin potatoes and Calvados gravy. To finish, spiced oranges and caramel sauce are a perfect foil to a creamy vanilla cheesecake. Top value is on offer in the pre-theatre dinner menu.
