Previously the residence of the Lord Provost, the Parklands Hotel is a fine Victorian building with extensive views over South Inch Park to Kinnoull Hill. The smart Acanthus Restaurant is its fine-dining option, an uncluttered space with leather high-backed chairs at linen-clothed tables on herrringbone parquet floors - all very tasteful with nothing to distract from the food. The kitchen takes a creative modern approach to its output. Sound technical skills are evident in starters such as scallops and pork with chilli, caramel and orange reduction, while mains could deliver wild duck with braised Puy lentils, artichoke purée and port jus. Chocolate assiette - tart, brownie, mousse - makes an indulgent finale.
