Nutfield Priory
Nutfield Road,
NUTFIELD,
Redhill,
RH1 4EL
Built in the 1870s, Nutfield is a classic slice of Victorian Gothic fantasy, inspired by Pugin's design for the Houses of Parliament. Nowadays it does business as an upmarket country-house hotel and spa, but all is not as it seems: Nutfield has never been a priory, although the Victorian craftsmen who put heart and soul into carving the vaulted archways, coffered oak ceilings, and mullioned windows in the Cloisters Restaurant certainly pulled off a convincing piece of fakery. Take in those splendid views across the South Downs, since that is where many of the ingredients forming the bedrock of the kitchen's contemporary country house cooking are sourced from. You might begin with a thoroughly 21st-century workout bringing together crab tian, scallop and langoustine mousse, and crayfish and tomato jelly with horseradish pannacotta, then progress to pan-roasted beef fillet with celeriac dauphinoise, wild mushrooms, and roasted cherry tomatoes, and end with a classic marriage of coffee mousse with walnut ice cream and Tia Maria sabayon.

Being an ex chef myself, I have a leaning to be far more critical that the normal dinner, however where praise is due it shall be given and in this instance the food that my guests and I recieved in the Cloisters restaurant put it simply stunning, imaginative, flavoursome, executed to perfection and very very modern, however i am told they have a New Head chef or as I am led to believe an old one has returned in essence to save the day so to speak!

The worst service ever almost to the point of being rude!
The setting is really nice, the food was average - beef was the best choice.
The ambiance was overshadowed by next door's wedding music.
We will not go back.
