A major refurbishment in late 2014 accentuated Balloo House's original historical features, while the additions of darkwood panelling and peacock blue and tan leather booth seating create an intimate atmosphere. When it comes to the menu, the roast Kilmore pigeon, apple & celeriac remoulade, hazelnut and red wine vinegrette gets the ball rolling, before moving on to Finnebrogue venison liver with a creamy mash and crispy onions or, perhaps, Portavogie prawn stuffed sole, potato gnocchi, wilted spinach and watercress veloute. Dessert might be cranberry bakewell with salted orange caramel and gingerbread ice cream or a chocolate panacotta with passionfruit sorbet, curd and chocolate tuile.
