The Olive Branch has come a long way since it was a simple roadside pub on the edge of Marsden Moor. Nowadays it is a fully-fledged contemporary restaurant with rooms, with a warren of intimate, interconnecting spaces done out with a snug, rustic style, friendly staff to create a welcoming ambience, and a decked terrace for aperitifs and sweeping moorland views on sunny days. The kitchen works with local producers to turn out a big-hearted menu of unfussy staples - braised lamb shank with leek and potato mash, and rosemary, tomato and garlic jus, say, while fans of local beef need look no further than the grill section for satisfaction: rib-eye steak with snails, and garlic and parsley butter. Fish is not overlooked either - check the seafood specials board, where there may be wild sea bass with lobster and shellfish cream, and vanilla oil. Go for something like cream and white rum pannacotta with cranberry and orange compote to finish.
