As well as taking its wines very seriously, Verden bills itself as specialising in the 'world's best' salamis, smoked and cured meats, and hard, soft, goats', washed and blue cheeses, all offered in 40g mix-and-match portions for a tasting board. If it's dinner you're after, though, the small economically worded la carte menu is changed weekly. Octopus carpaccio is a good place to start, thin slices blended with a heady sauce, coriander leaves and a delicate mayo. Follow with flavoursome stuffed saddle of rabbit with spring vegetables for textural contrast, with rich, well-balanced salted caramel chocolate pot to close proceedings. A 'feasting menu' is available for large parties.
