Going strong for 25 years now, Sonny's is the kind of popular, relaxed joint (albeit a touch of West-End style and some skilful cooking) that everyone would like on their doorstep. Upfront is the bar with the eating going on at the back, and a food shop described as 'a gastronomic tardis' next door. In the restaurant, bold modern art is set off by neutral tones while tables are nicely dressed in white linen and seating is a mixture of banquettes and wooden chairs. The appealing modern brasserie menu shows some restraint by sensibly keeping things relatively simple; expect fresh, accomplished cooking and prices that won't scare the horses. Dinner could begin with salad of poached quince, Bleu D'Auvergne, walnuts and bitter leaves before roast chicken served with broad beans, chanterelles and parmesan gnocchi. Who could resist a classic floating island with pink pralines to complete the heart-warming experience?>
