L'Escargot - The Picasso Room

This elegant dining room above the famous Ground Floor restaurant is dedicated to Picasso and boasts a collection of original ceramics (plates, vases and jugs) by the artist as well as a number of prints. Comfortable leather seating and quality table settings are provided, with service both formal and discreet. Starters featuring snails, frogs' legs and smoked foie gras set the tone for a predominantly classic French dining experience, but if that doesn't appeal you might kick off with seared loin of yellowfin tuna with tropical grapefruit, pomegranate and coriander. Mains are simply and skilfully prepared and showcase lots of top British produce and might include fillet of John Dory with garlic purée, lasagne of chanterelles and celery and truffle velouté, or a perfectly timed assiette of rabbit - roasted loin, braised leg and confit shoulder with crisp belly and livers. Desserts stick to the Gallic theme with the likes of nougat and vanilla parfait with nut clusters and almond custard. An extensive wine list, dominated by the main French regions, echoes the quality of the food.
