Built in 1893, this grand grey-stoned hotel occupies a stunning location between the town and Gyllyngvase beach and commands fine views across Falmouth Bay to Pendennis Castle. As befits such a stately seaside hotel, expect a deeply agreeable air of times gone by, of grandeur worn lightly, and of proper relaxation not often found in big-city hotels. In the Terrace Restaurant, which opens up at the front in the summer months, the mood is complete, with formal yet unstuffy service from friendly, attentive staff and a good range of modern International dishes. From a typical autumn menu, kick off with a smooth, nicely seasoned and well-textured chicken liver parfait with a mature apple chutney, then follow with a braised beef leg fillet served with sautéed potatoes, leeks and a rich and delicious Madeira jus.
