Description
Located on the edge of the new town, this quirky basement restaurant with an upstairs bar-lounge has a regular and loyal following. Vettriano prints and objets d'art, smart white-clothed tables, subdued lighting and exposed natural stone combine to create an elegant and intimate setting with a contemporary vibe. Three small interconnected eating areas make for cosy dining, while upstairs guests can enjoy pre-dinner drinks or during the day coffees, pastries and good-value lunches. The finest seasonal Scottish produce features on a monthly-changing menu of modern dishes, simply prepared, with fish always well represented. For starters, take smoked haddock and leek fishcake with pan-fried baby spinach and fresh tomato coulis, and follow with baked fillet of salmon with a Shetland crab and spring onion sabayon, panaché of green beans and confit tomatoes.

A very welcoming atmosphere, with a comfy bar area. The restaurant was intimate without being tacky. The food was superb - I particularly liked the braised beef. Only one small remark - it was a little fast arriving - more digestion time would be appreciated.
