39 Bridge Street, BERWICK-UPON-TWEED, TD15 1ES

1 rosettes

Close to the bridge over the Tweed at the lower end of the walled town, Magna has earned a reputation for top-notch Indian cooking since it opened in 1982. Occupying a grand Victorian building, bright red chairs and marble-topped tables add a cheery glow to the place. The menu offers plenty of familiar curry-house staples, but what sets it apart is the use of local meats and locally-grown vegetables. Start with tandoori barbecued venison, or a bowl of Mulligatawny soup. For main courses, go for the chef's special massala or king prawn green Bengal.
