Riverside House Hotel
Fennel Street,
ASHFORD-IN-THE-WATER,
Bakewell,
DE45 1QF
In the heart of the Peak District, the Riverside is an ivy-clad Georgian country house next to the Wye. Inside is decked out in the convivial colours the Georgian era enjoyed, the dining room looking out on to the river and furnished with homely-looking, unclothed tables. The cooking retains an affection for some of the traditional ways of British food, but inflected with bright modern touches. Start perhaps with dill-marinated salmon, beetroot salad and horseradish cream, before rolling on with duck breast roasted in Szechuan peppercorns and honey and served with dauphinoise, or fried monkfish with chargrilled new potatoes and a warm vegetable salad. Awaiting you at the end might be a crystallised ginger tart, served with peach and passionfruit pannacotta.

Truly excellent dinner chosen from an extensive menu and accompanied by some surprise treats and a very comprehensive wine list. I very enjoyable experience indeed.
