Minster Lovell, WITNEY, OX29 0RN
Idyllically situated alongside the River Windrush in the thatched village of Old Minster, this 600-year-old inn was a favourite of Sir Winston Churchill, whose ancestral home is nearby Blenheim Palace. Over the past 30 years, the de Savary family has transformed the place into a luxurious destination, whether it's just for a quiet pint, a meal or overnight stay. In the high-ceilinged, beamed restaurant, pub classics are served alongside more innovative daily specials. A starter of River Windrush crayfish and Devon crab cocktail might be followed by pan-roasted Burford chicken and Madeira jus.
