Botany Bay Inne

The pub was built by the Hall & Woodhouse brewery (they're still the owners) in the 1920s to replace one in the village the local squire found offensive. Initially called the General Allenby, its name was changed in the 1980s in belated recognition of prisoners from Dorchester jail awaiting transportation to Australia. No such threat hangs over today's visitors here for locally sourced pub snacks and main dishes such as breaded wholetail scampi; steak and stilton pie; slow-roasted lamb shank; butterflied chicken breast; and sweet potato and red pepper cannelloni.
