The City Arms

69 High Street, WELLS, BA5 2AG

This building was once the city gaol (Judge Jeffreys passed sentence here) and original features include barred windows, a solitary cell, chains and locks. The pub offers traditional standards of quality and service, and its choice of seven real ales, draught ciders and menus of fresh local produce. The bar menu might offer toasted goat's cheese salad with roasted tomatoes on garlic ciabatta with balsamic glaze followed by pan-fried liver and bacon with creamy mash. Typical specials include spicy Swedish meatballs and red Thai chicken curry. There are monthly live music evenings.
