Situated on the edge of the Lake District National Park, this traditional English country inn dates from 1719 and is chock-full of beams, flagstones and memorabilia as you would expect from an old inn. While enjoying a pint of Unicorn, Cumbria Way and Dizzy Blonde in the bar, look for the Wordsworth Indenture, signed by the great poet himself, his brother, Christopher, and local wheelwright John Bewsher, to whom the Wordsworths sold the pub in 1836. You can eat in the bar or restaurant, and a meal might include bacon and black pudding salad; oven-baked chicken stuffed with Blengdale Blue and spinach; and chocolate and orange tart. In August every year the Cumbrian beer and sausage festival is held here. The village shop is located at the back of the inn.
