An imposing, 400-year-old coaching inn of honey-coloured local stone that could well be the highest pub in the Cotswolds, a fact that hardly matters since the views over the Severn are stunning anyway. Occupying a central position in the village, the closeness of the Cotswold Way makes it a popular stop for hikers and bikers. Inside, the inn's character is preserved with natural stone, wood panelling, a lovely open fire and some local real ales, like Stroud Organic and Wickwar Cotswold Way. In the galleried restaurant, the owners offer fresh, home-made food cooked to order - steak and ale pie, T-bone steak, Gressingham duck, lamb rump and vegetarian options. In the large garden, children will enjoy the playground area, which has a swing, slides and a climbing bridge.
