This charming village local is the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of nearby Norwich. Tastefully modernised with a modern rustic chic look, expect thick, chunky wooden tables, wooden floors and oak beams, vases of fresh lilies, potted plants, crackling log fires and yellow rag-washed walls. What is striking is the quirky collection of African tribal art, which adds a touch of exoticism. Although the emphasis has been placed firmly on delivering great food, all are welcome to pop in for a pint of Adnams and a decent glass of wine (16 are available by the glass). The kitchen takes a modern approach - underpinned by a classical French theme. Kick off with warm pigeon and Parma ham salad and move on to grilled smoked haddock with garlic creamed potato and buttered spinach. Leave room for pistachio cake and pistachio parfait with boozy cherries. As we went to press, a change of hands was taking place.
