The Travellers Rest
Description
The stone built Travellers Rest is was built in 1730 and fully renovated in 2002 by Caroline Lumley. It sits high on a steep hillside with glorious views, a dining terrace, duck pond, huge car park and helipad. The cosy stone-flagged bar boasts fresh flowers and an open fire, while in the restaurant, beams, animal print sofas, more warmth from a wood-burning stove, and exposed stonework continue the emphasis on comfort and relaxation. Dishes cooked to order from local produce are rooted in Yorkshire tradition yet refined with French flair, yielding an immaculate and happy mix of classic and contemporary cooking. Bar meals start with sandwiches, and continue with steak and ale pie with pastry crust, or sausage and mash with onion gravy. In the restaurant you'll find starters like potted crayfish, or creamy garlic and herb mushrooms on toasted brioche; and main courses such as caramelized pork fillet with baked apple mash. Resist the jam sponge with custard if you can.
