The Highwayman Inn
SOURTON,
Okehampton,
EX20 4HN
The Highwayman is a fascinating and unique place, full of legend, strange architecture, eccentric furniture and obscure bric-a-brac, with roots going back to 1282. Now run by his daughter Sally, John 'Buster' Jones began his creating his vision in 1959 - features include part of a galleon, wood hauled from Dartmoor's bogs, and Gothic church arches; the entrance is through the old Okehampton-Launceston coach. Popular with holidaymakers and international tourists, the Highwayman refreshes one and all with drinks which include real farmhouse cider and interesting bottled beers from local breweries; great pasties and pies are always available and for residents only a more extensive menu featuring lobster thermidor and duck a l'orange is offered.

Having read the reviews I was eager to visit this pub for lunch with my family on the journey home to Devon from Cornwall as it was ideally located just off the A30.
The outside of the pub and gardens looked spectacular unfortunately that was as far as we got as it was closed despite it being 12.30 on a Monday in July and despite the website saying it would be open.
What a shame! but we went on a little further down the road to the Fox and Hounds where we enjoyed a scrumptious lunch
