George & Dragon Inn
Fisher Street,
SANDWICH,
CT13 9EJ
Built in 1446, ale was first sold here in 1549, but was only licensed under the name of George & Dragon in 1615. This town centre pub oozes charm and character, with its wood floors and open fires, and makes a welcome pit-stop when exploring historic Sandwich on foot. Run by two brothers, you can refuel with a pint of well kept ale, including Shepherd Neame Master Brew or Wantsum. The lunch board includes dishes like grilled pork with root vegetable mash, or chicken and mushroom pie. On the monthly-changing evening menu, expect rump of lamb on curried chickpeas, or butternut squash tart with sage Parmesan crumble. Head outside to the picturesque sun-trap courtyard in summer.

Had heard negative comments about previous owners, but new owners recently.
Food was of a very good standard, foie gras terrine was well above average, pork belly starter was excellent, sea bass was slightly uninspired, but overall the food was well cooked, presented and staff were informed and polite. will visit again
