Crown & Sandys Arms
Description
After being closed for nearly a year for complete refurbishment, this classy establishment run by Richard and Rachael Everton reopened its doors in May 2009. The decor is bang up-to-date, yet the original beams and fireplaces seem to blend effortlessly with the trendy furnishings. Expect the same focus on well-kept real ales, ciders from Thatchers and Aspall, a smoothly managed food operation and excellent service. Regular 'wine dinners' and themed evenings continue, complementing the modern menus which burst with the latest flavours. The full carte is backed by a weekly specials list, and customers can choose between three dining areas: the Orangery, the Bistro and the Bar. Starters may include potted salmon and crab with hot toasted crumpets. Main dishes offer favourites like fish and home-cut chips; steak and kidney pudding; and steaks of best Scottish beef. Desserts such as lemon, sultana and treacle steamed sponge with custard will not be resisted.
