The Ring of Bells Inn
NORTH BOVEY,
Newton Abbot,
TQ13 8RB
This thatched Dartmoor pub dates back to the 13th-century building and was originally built to house the stonemasons building the parish church. Overlooking the green in the pretty village of North Bovey, the Ring of Bells draws Dartmoor visitors and walkers in for good food and local Otter ales. The kitchen uses fresh, locally sourced produce and menus reflect the changing seasons; suppliers are proudly listed. Served in cosy low-beamed bars, with heavy oak doors, rustic furnishings, crackling winter log fires and evening candlelight, the short daily menu may list fig and foie gras terrine with spiced fruit chutney or carpaccio of beef fillet for starters, followed by hearty main dishes such as roast rump of Dartmoor lamb with braised Puy lentils or baked fillet of Cornish cod with a light River Teign mussel and fennel velouté. Round off with warm chocolate and banana pudding with banana ice cream.

We had been often, so booked for Valentine's. Starter nice, but main small and undercooked. Don't mind pink poultry - but raw? We were still hungry. Good job dessert bigger than starter/main together! Coffee served before dessert?? In all this 3 course meal/coffee cost £80, not incl. drinks, and took 3 hours!! SO SLOW! When we paid, no-one asked if we had enjoyed the evening. Sadly, I don't think they care. The place changed hands Dec 08, and it shows, but not for the better.
