The Ring of Bells Inn
NORTH BOVEY,
Newton Abbot,
TQ13 8RB
Set in idyllic North Bovey, this 13th-century building was originally built to house the stonemasons building the parish church. Overlooking the green in this pretty village, the Ring of Bells is the hub of the community and draws Dartmoor visitors and walkers in for good food and locally brewed ales. The kitchen uses fresh, locally sourced produce and menus reflect the changing seasons; suppliers are proudly listed. Served in cosy low-beamed bars, with heavy oak doors, rustic furnishings, crackling winter log fires and evening candlelight, the short daily menu may list smoked haddock, leek and sweetcorn chowder or venison, pistachio and juniper berry terrine for starters, followed by hearty main dishes such as a steaming bowl of Exmouth mussels finished with double cream, or baby monkfish tails with Thai green curry. Round off with English Victoria plum and almond tart with vanilla ice cream, or North Bovey honey cheesecake with comb honey and baked figs.

We had been often, so booked for Valentine's. Starter nice, but main small and undercooked. Don't mind pink poultry - but raw? We were still hungry. Good job dessert bigger than starter/main together! Coffee served before dessert?? In all this 3 course meal/coffee cost £80, not incl. drinks, and took 3 hours!! SO SLOW! When we paid, no-one asked if we had enjoyed the evening. Sadly, I don't think they care. The place changed hands Dec 08, and it shows, but not for the better.
