The George & Dragon
2 High Street,
MUCH WENLOCK,
TF13 6AA
A traditional black and white 17th-century inn at the heart of Much Wenlock, The George & Dragon oozes history, charm and character and has many a spooky tale attached. Sited next to the market square, Guildhall and ruined priory, the inn welcomes everyone, from locals to celebrities - John Cleese, Tony Robinson, Jennifer Jones and George Cole are among those who have popped in for refreshment. Run by locals Bev and James, it offers five traditional cask ales and home-cooked food such as Welsh rarebit, home-made pie of the day, or pan-fried Gressingham duck breast with black cherry sauce. The town is well known for its Wenlock Olympic Games, which have taken place every July since 1850, and were a big inspiration to the modern Olympic movement.

We visited the George and Dragon on the 28th February 2010 for Sunday lunch and must say we were very pleased with the service and especially the quality of the food. We had a little wait before the meal was served but this has to be expected as it was all fresh and home cooked. We shall certainly be going again.
