The Fox Inn

The Green, MATCHING TYE, CM17 0QS

Known to have been licensed by 1809, the Gibson family took over this 18th-century pub in 2002. In the lofty, timbered restaurant a huge open fireplace spanned by a wide bressumer beam supports a hefty brick chimney that disappears into the rafters. The menus strike all the right notes for those who like their food both simply prepared and described, thus lamb's liver, bacon, mash and onion gravy; gammon, eggs and chips; baked salmon fillet, new potatoes and mixed vegetables; and home-made vegetable lasagne. Adnams Southwold and Shepherd Neame Spitfire are among the real ales to be found in the bar, as are 12 wines by the glass.
