The Black Horse Inn
Pilgrims Way,
Thurnham,
MAIDSTONE,
ME14 3LD
Converted from a forge in the mid-18th century, this popular free house is smack beside the Pilgrim's Way and tucked just below the North Downs ridge. You'll find plenty of old-world Kentish charm in the beamed bar with its open fires - perfect for quaffing pints of Harveys Sussex Bitter and local Biddenden cider. The candlelit restaurant serves a good range of imaginative British and Continental cuisine, including smoked duck and celeriac remoulade. There are 30 stylish annexe bedrooms to the rear of the inn. Enjoy your drink or dine outside in the lovely garden with its fish and duck pond.

This pub has a laid back informal atmosphere. A welcome log fire and a good choice of beers and wines, with some strong local ciders, be warned. But it is the food which really shines here, the slow-roast belly of pork was quite delisious. Highly recommended.
