Expect beers from Lincolnshire micro-breweries at village inn in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Recent refurbishment has introduced slate floors and uncovered terrazzo tiles, but hasn't compromised the character of the place. Comfy contemporary furnishings and open fires blend easily with displays recalling 101 Squadron, based at nearby Ludford Magna airfield in WWII. The pub was also once part of an estate owned by George Tennyson MP, grandfather of Alfred Lord Tennyson. Food is a key part of the offering here. Diners can enjoy an eclectic menu of home-made, locally sourced meals: perhaps wild boar salami salad, or braised pork cheek to start; followed by sea cod with curly cale colcannon, macaroni with chestnut mushrooms and Colston Basset stilton, or shank of lamb with mash and roast parsnips. Try a baked ginger parkin or some steamed treacle sponge pudding for afters.
