White Hart Thatched Inn & Brewery
LLANDDAROG,
Nr Carmarthen,
SA32 8NT
Built in 1371, this lovely old free house has been run by the Coles family since 1994. It is thought to have started life as a hostel for the stonemasons who built the nearby village church - but the White Hart has proved more durable, for the church burnt down in 1850 and was replaced by the present building a few years later. Throughout its long history the pub continued to cater for the working population, and home-brewed ale was an essential ingredient of the cakes baked here for drovers attending the famous Llanddarog fair. Nowadays the bar is crammed with antiques, including the heavily carved oak settles beside the open log fire. The theme continues in the converted barn that forms the dining room, where a Towy River coracle is amongst dozens of artefacts decorating the high rafters. Ales are brewed on site using top quality malted barley, whole hop cones and water from the 300-foot deep well; 'Cwrw Blasus' (meaning tasty ale) is always available, along with a selection of other cask conditioned ales. Food at the White Hart gets the same careful attention - the business is now a member of Prince Charles' exclusive Welsh lamb club, and also serves pedigree Welsh Black beef alongside its own eggs and home-produced pork. The varied menu offers bar snacks, steaks, poultry and fish, whilst typical blackboard specials might include traditional Welsh cawl; belly pork with vegetables; sea bass fillets in lemon butter; hunter's chicken; and salmon in sweet chilli. In summer, the flower-filled patio garden is perfect for alfresco dining. Children will enjoy the play area and seeing the pigs, chickens, ducks and turkeys on the small home farm.

We went to the White hart for lunch it was simply the best food I've had and the home made beers are just as good they even make their own cider .The children played in the garden and watched the pigs and chickens in the farm so if you are in that area you must give it a go you won't be disappointed .Try one of the home made pies .The White hart has been voted one of the best 100 pubs in the country

Expensive, tasteless food. Everything is boiled in oil and you have to pay up front. My fillet steak, medium, produced no juices and came with chips, peas and boiled mushrooms, £20. Disgusting. I would not go back.

The food on offer is basicaly very overpriced bar meals and the quality was mediocre at best. We were asked to leave at 10pm as there was nobody else left but us and they wanted to close up. I would not eat there again and i would not recommend it to anyone. The only thing it has going for it is the beautiful old building.
