This 15th-century Grade II listed lodge, reputedly built for the Bishop of Norwich, has large gardens running down to the River Dove, with a vast willow tree. Inside, the restaurant and front bar boast a 10ft inglenook fireplace, ornate beamed ceilings and old planked floors. Food includes starters like pan-fried pigeon breast with celeriac and apple gratin or smoked mackerel fishcakes; followed by silverside and oxtail braise with horseradish mash, millefeuille of pork, apricot and almonds; or aubergine, chickpea and sweet potato tagine.
