Bennets is a listed property dating from 1839 with hand-painted tiles and murals on the walls, original stained-glass windows, intricate wood carving on bar fitments and brass beer taps. It's a friendly pub, popular with performers from the adjacent Kings Theatre. The traditional bar has some contemporary twists and serves real ales, over 120 malt whiskies and a decent selection of wines. The home-made food, at a reasonable price, ranges from toasties, burgers and salads to stovies (potato and meat stew), steak pie, and Scottish fare. There's also a daily roast and traditional puddings. Coffee and tea are served all day.
