The Old Bell Inn

5 Huddersfield Road, DELPH, Saddleworth, OL3 5EG

Did highwayman Dick Turpin rest here en route to the gallows in York? Possibly. More certain is that in 1835 a young Queen Victoria stayed here when visiting that city. If you're dining, starters might include Fleetwood smoked haddock and leek chowder; steamed Welsh mussels with tomato and chorizo; and duck liver and gin parfait. Moving on to mains you may find pressed shoulder of Yorkshire lamb with rosemary fondants; poached and roasted Goosnargh chicken breast with chorizo dauphinoise; and seasonal fish and seafood pie. For something rather different, try snout-to-tail suckling pig. Finish with a slate of Lancashire, Yorkshire and European cheeses.
