The White Lion

There has been a change of hands at this 250-year-old local, which is beautifully positioned high in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. An extensive makeover mixes traditional and contemporary and open fires take away the winter chill in this pub, which is popular with ramblers. Good, solid pub meals like toad-in-the-hole with mash; locally cured ham, egg and chips; and beer-battered haddock, chips and peas also warm the cockles, with meals taken in the conservatory restaurant or in the secluded garden when the weather allows.
