Macclesfield Road, Eaton, CONGLETON, CW12 2NH
Set well back from the main road in the hamlet of Eaton, this 400-year-old Cheshire-brick inn is a far cry from its genesis as a farmhouse. With a new licensee arriving in 2015, it continues to be a popular destination dining pub; the restaurant is housed in a remarkable cruck barn moved here from Wales. Choose your refreshment, a pint of Wells Bombardier or a guest ale perhaps, before perusing the monthly changing menu. Here you might find goats' cheese croquette or confit duck leg and spring roll to start, followed by Marrakesh spiced lamb shank; slow-cooked beef short rib; Jalfrezi-style curry and '3 Way Pork' - that's five-hour braised suckling pig.
