Description

A terrace of 16th-century cottages opposite Jane Austen's house, which was divided into a 'beer shop' and grocery in the 1860s. Proper pub status followed with a license granted to the Chawton Arms; for reasons unknown it became the Greyfriar in 1894. Today it's a family-run and friendly place to enjoy Fullers beers and quality food from a varied and imaginative menu. Expect the likes of sautéed fresh asparagus, Scottish scallops grilled in the shell, and main courses that include fresh lamb reared in the village.

Predictable pub fare, somewhat overpriced - surprising given clientele dominated by local trademen judging by cramped car park. Service slow and staff surly. Manager not at all helpful. Seating uncomfortable. Altogether an unpleasant experience.

Another great meal with the family, with good service and beers all in a friendly atmosphere in this popular pub - both with the locals and visitors alike. I've been visiting here for about 8 years and I've never had a bad meal or flat pint to date ! The guest beers are worth trying, although a couple aren't to my personal taste, regulars such as ESB and London pride always hit the spot. As someone who's visited many an establishment over the years, this pub is highly recommended.

Another great sunday lunch for the family, accompanied by traditional ale's in a friendly atmosphere in this very popular pub - both with the locals and visitors. Portions are generous, the guest beers are worth trying and service is good whenever you go there, day or evenings.
