The Swan Inn
CHAPPEL,
Colchester,
CO6 2DD
Under the constant gaze of a magnificent railway viaduct and surrounded by beautiful countryside, this 14th-century, low-beamed free house and restaurant has a well-founded reputation for food, especially fresh fish. Other typical dishes include toad-in-the-hole; lamb's liver and bacon; and Mediterranean vegetable lasagne. The River Colne runs through the gardens where, as in the sheltered courtyard, you can enjoy a meal. The bar serves plenty of wines by the glass and well kept Adnams real ales; Essex and Suffolk brews appear at Spring and August bank holiday beer festivals.

Had to teach my meat to swim, broccoli was yellow, veg cold and having sent back my chocolate pear tart because it was stale and having it replaced with an equally stale one I was overcharged. Definately on my black list of places never to visit again.
