Ty Gwyn Inn
BETWYS-Y-COED,
LL24 0SG
A coaching inn on the old London to Holyhead road long before Thomas Telford built his impressive cast iron Waterloo Bridge over the River Conwy opposite in 1815. Much of the original 17th-century character is evident inside. The Ratcliffe family has owned and run it for the past 28 years, and now Martin (the chef for all that time) and his wife Nicola are in charge. Real ales come from as near as Conwy's Great Orme brewery, as well as from much further afield. Martin relies heavily on quality Welsh produce for a mostly international cooking style that results in breast of chicken, goat's cheese and asparagus marinated in Chardonnay, garlic and lime cream; rosemary-scented roast rack of Snowdon lamb with onion and peppercorn marmalade; and fresh fillet of line-caught wild sea bass with king prawns, saffron and garlic. Some of Nicola's own-designed en suite rooms have four-posters.

This is not a pub, you can not get a drink unless you are dining or a resident. Dining is fully booked at weekends and busy holidays. Their website does not mention you can not served unless you are a diner which is mis-leading and frustrating.
