The Wellington Arms
Description
Blackboard menus and Edwardian furniture set the scene at this tiny whitewashed pub. Fields and woodland surround the large lawned garden, an ideal setting for the free-range chickens whose eggs are used in the kitchen. There are beehives too; herbs are grown just outside the kitchen door, the bread is baked by a craft baker, and nearby Henwood Farm delivers fresh organic vegetables and salads every day. The impressive menus show attention to detail - and so must you; check the food service times and book in advance to sample the mouth-watering fare. Starters might include local rabbit and free-range pork terrine with apple chutney and hot toast, followed by main course options such as roast rack of English lamb with fennel gratin and oven-dried tomatoes, or seared Brixham turbot on sautéed marsh samphire. Leave space for dessert; steamed apple and syrup sponge with custard is a typical choice.
