Set in a peaceful village overlooking the church, the former Prince of Wales pub was transformed into this modern bar and restaurant by the team behind Fischer's Restaurant in nearby Baslow Hall. The sibling venue offers an informal mix of stone-flagged bar area, where you can sup a pint of local Thornbridge ale, alongside the chic, more contemporary feel of its three dining areas upstairs. Very much a dining destination (the food has been awarded two AA Rosettes), menus feature an appealing mix of modern and traditional British, with an emphasis on quality local produce. At lunch, simply presented dishes may take in light bites of Rowley's venison burger in a freshly baked sesame bun, or a poached salmon sandwich with dill mayonnaise. Main courses range from chargrilled dry-aged bavette of beef with braised red cabbage and gratin dauphinoise, to oven-roasted wood pigeon or pan-fried brill. Children's choices are home made by the chefs too.
