Barley Mow Inn

Kirk Ireton, ASHBOURNE, DE6 3JP

Built on the edge of the Peak District National Park by the Storer family of yeomen farmers in the 16th century, the building became an inn during the early 1700s. The imposing free house has remained largely unchanged over the years, and has been run by Mary Short since 1976. Six nine-gallon barrels of beer stand behind the bar, with cheese and pickle or salami rolls and bar snacks on offer at lunchtime. Close to Carsington Water, there are good walking opportunities on nearby marked paths.
